How We Care

At Belmont House we pride ourselves on knowing that one size does not fit all.
We think outside the box to ensure that we can meet the needs of our residents as their needs become greater.

Residential and Palliative Care

Belmont House provides both residential and palliative care.

We try to offer a forever home where possible and work closely with the District and St David’s Nurses to ensure that we can support palliative care should that be the wishes of our residents.

Independence

At Belmont House, residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives which includes mobility dressing, oral care, choosing their own meals and being involved in decision making within the home.

This is achieved through daily care, conversations, support, routines and more explicit through residents meetings. We hold regular meetings with residents and families to ensure we provide the best person-centered care.

Safety

We use an electronic system where all professional visits to the home are documented , these include any medical personnel, as well as service providers such as opticians, dentists, hairdressers etc. Staff have good relationships with all professionals who understand the importance and expectations of them during the visit.

There is a handover system in place to ensure all staff are aware of the appointment and any outcomes of this that they need to be aware of especially if this correspondence changes the care and support.

Residents Handbook

We provide each of our residents with a handbook , which includes information for them and their loved ones about life at Belmont House. Including:

  • Where you live

  • Your support

  • Rights and responsibilities

  • Keeping you safe

  • Your money

  • Letting us know what you think

Healthcare

Each resident has access to healthcare through regular contact with the GP, with three GP’s conducting weekly visits. Any resident issues are discussed with the manager and interventions made if necessary.

The residents are supported to appointments by a carer and the resident’s loved ones are informed of the appointments, should they wish to attend. We ensure that families are kept fully updated and involved in any decision making process involving the health and wellbeing of a resident.

Belmont House also holds a good and open relationship with the Mental Health Team and they visit the home to support with the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the residents.

Activities

The Activities Coordinator takes residents on visits to the town and parks, as well as to other community events. Community inclusion is important to help residents feel respected in the community and to maintain skills that can be lost due to living in care.

These visits encourage handling money, holding meaningful conversations and feeling part of the community. You can find out more about our activities here.

Food

We provide nourishing home-cooked food for our residents with an option at every mealtime. We provide, breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. You can find our sample menu here.
